Recently, I discussed how Pinterest can be used to generate traffic to websites. Since most webmasters are so focused on how to optimize their websites for Google, we have a tendency to forget about several other traffic sources that can be extremely effective towards the purpose of sending laser targeted traffic to our money sites.
That said, when it comes to traffic generation, sometimes it is worthwhile to invest in more efficient options as opposed to spending countless hours on manual strategies to boost your traffic. Frankly, this is time that should be spent on other demanding aspects of your business instead.
Several Internet Marketing apps have been released this year and many of them are intended to automate the process of sending traffic to your web properties thereby allowing Internet Marketers to work more efficiently. After all, I think we can all agree that getting traffic is the ultimate goal for all Internet Marketers. You can send masses of real visitors to your website with traffic apps and these programs can automate the process of publishing your links across social platforms. As a result, articles, images, and other content from your website can quickly go viral which means visitors come in swarms. This viral effect usually cannot be achieved through static Google rankings – unless you are #1 – which illustrates the reason we should focus more of our energy on automating the process of traffic generation from other sources.
After all, the other option is much less appealing… doing it manually. At the time I’m writing this, Pinterest isn’t exactly “news” but it’s still as trendy as ever. So in this article, I’m going to share some of the ways in which you can take advantage of this resource and start sending high quality traffic to your website.
I’m actually going to begin with an example because I love using examples! You might also consider this a real life application because it’s completely based on how Pinterest is useful to my fiance, a casual Internet user.
Imagine Sally has a knack for creating some really tasty concoctions with food, so she decides to make her own dinner recipe blog. Each blog post is another recipe that Sally comes up with and she includes complete details and pictures that correspond with the process. When the meal is complete, she takes a picture of the final result. Sally uses Pinterest to post pictures of her favorite dishes, all of which she created and published to her blog.
Meanwhile, a homemaker in Nevada is getting ready to prepare dinner for her family and decides to surprise them with something a little different this evening. So she fires up Pinterest and starts browsing for pictures of homemade recipes and something catches her attention… it’s a picture of one of Sally’s recipes!
A picture is enough to grab someone’s attention and make their mouth water, but it’s not going to help much in the way of teaching us how to actually make the dish, but Pinterest has that taken care of for both Sally and the homemaker.
Pinterest allows you to upload images from a website by entering the website’s address and selecting which image to share from that website. In doing so, whenever another Pinterest user clicks on that image, they are directed to the source page of that image. In other words, when someone clicks on Sally’s images, they will be redirected to the blog post featuring that particular recipe. And that’s what we Internet Marketers like to call “laser targeted traffic”!
But that’s not where the benefits end for Sally. People visit her website when they are interested in one of her recipes, right? Well, it’s very likely that anyone looking for recipes online have looked for recipes online before, so if Sally has an engaging blog with other cool unique recipes, there is a chance for each of these visitors to become returning visitors which is the best type of visitor a webmaster could ask for.
Hopefully my example helps you visualize the extent of Pinterest’s viral potential and power to generate traffic in the form of targeted visitors, but we can definitely keep going with this, so please read on.
One of my favorite strategies is to create a pin board with the same name as your blog. For example if you have a blog called “Dogs and Cats Blog” you would also have a pin board called “Dogs and Cats Blog” and whenever you publish another post to your blog, pin one of the images. This is a good SEO practice for your blog and helps with your ranking on Google.
While we’re on the subject of using Pinterest for increasing traffic, infographics are another great idea and they also represent one of the hottest online trends. And since Pinterest users love to share infographics by clicking to “re-pin” that means if you create a catchy infographic, it could have a viral effect with enormous benefits for its creator.
Whenever someone re-pins an image, it is shown on their Pinterest page. Moreover, if someone clicks on your image from another Pinterest page, they will be redirected to your blog or website since you are still the author of that pin. If you’ve used Pinterest long enough, you probably have a sense for the frequency at which Pinterest users love to re-pin cool images, so that should give you a pretty good idea about how this can benefit webmasters.
“But I’m not advanced enough to create infographics in Photoshop!”
News flash! You don’t need to use Photoshop to create elegant infographics that are arguably more effective than those created with Photoshop. Ever heard of Microsoft Word? I’m pretty sure you know how to use that software if you’re using a computer! Microsoft Word happens to be excellent for infographics as well and you could also use Powerpoint, so I’m afraid you do not have any excuses now!
Hopefully this gives you an idea of how powerful Pinterest can be, particularly when it comes to increasing traffic flow to your website. The best thing about all of this has to be the fact that Pinterest traffic is free targeted traffic which is the same thing many webmasters empty their wallets to get.
